DynamiqYes. Self-hosted on your cloud or on-prem, or Dynamiq Cloud; both run the same engine.
n8nYes. The Community Edition self-hosts for free, and the paid Business and Enterprise plans add SSO, LDAP, Git version control and air-gapped deployment.
- License and source code
DynamiqThe Python SDK is open source under Apache-2.0 (github.com/dynamiq-ai/dynamiq), and the visual canvas runs on the same engine. The platform around it is not open source.
n8nSource-available under the Sustainable Use License (fair-code): use and modification are limited to internal business, non-commercial or personal purposes, and distribution is allowed only free of charge for non-commercial purposes; enterprise files are under a separate n8n Enterprise License.
- Model choice
Dynamiq29 model providers in the SDK, the most-used models behind one OpenAI-compatible AI Gateway endpoint, plus open models served on vLLM and LoRA fine-tuning.
n8nModel nodes for many providers with your own keys, plus Gateway credits (September 2026) on Cloud Starter and Pro for models such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google Gemini from one prepaid balance; no total provider count is published.
- Agent types (chat, voice, workflow)
DynamiqChat, inbound voice and workflow agents on one engine. AI Coworker works with its own cloud sandbox computer, in the browser, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Telegram; Voice Agents answer inbound calls; Agent Builder runs workflow agents.
n8nWorkflows with AI Agent nodes, sub-agents and human steps, plus n8n Agents (in preview since September 2026) that people reach through chat, channels such as Slack, Telegram and Linear, or schedules, and Chat Hub for chat across models and agents. No voice agent product is described.
- Developer surface
DynamiqAgent Builder pairs a visual canvas with the open-source Python SDK on one engine, with Choice and rules nodes, workflows generated from a prompt, and versions with rollback.
n8nA node-based canvas with JavaScript and Python code, an AI Workflow Builder that drafts workflows from a description, a REST API and CLI, JSON export, MCP as client and server, and Git version control on Business and Enterprise.
- Governance (guardrails, approvals, SSO)
DynamiqGuardrails that detect PII and prompt injection, policy detection, validators and approvals with editable fields on any tool step, on every plan; SSO (OIDC with Okta and Microsoft Entra ID) on Enterprise.
n8nA Guardrails node that checks text for jailbreaks, PII, secret keys and off-topic content, human approval before an AI agent runs a chosen tool, RBAC on paid plans, and SSO over SAML or OIDC plus LDAP on Business and Enterprise.
- Evals and observability
DynamiqEvals with datasets built from traces, LLM-as-a-judge, predefined and code metrics, and real-time evaluations on live deployments; traces with cost and latency per node, monitoring, and an AI agent that surfaces issues from production traces.
n8nQuick evaluations during development and metric-based evaluations (such as correctness, helpfulness and tools used) in production, Insights dashboards, OpenTelemetry tracing with agent spans, and log streaming on Enterprise.
- Integrations
Dynamiq2,100+ app integrations and 11,800+ actions, plus MCP servers and per-user connections.
n8nIts integrations page lists more than 2,200 integrations, plus an HTTP Request node for any API, vector store nodes, data tables and a library of more than 10,000 workflow templates.
- Compliance
DynamiqSOC 2 and CASA Tier 2, with a BAA for HIPAA workloads and a DPA under GDPR.
n8nSOC 2 audited, with a public SOC 3 report and GDPR listed on its trust center; HIPAA and ISO 27001 are not stated on its security page.
- Delivery help (engineers)
DynamiqForward-deployed engineers run a bootcamp in your environment, ship the first production agent with your team, then hand over.
n8nDedicated support with an SLA on Enterprise, and an Experts partner program for agencies and integrators; no n8n-staffed deployment engagement is described.
- Pricing model
DynamiqFree to start ($0), and Enterprise with custom pricing. Available on AWS Marketplace, Microsoft Azure Marketplace and IBM Marketplace.
n8nCloud Starter at 20 euro a month (2,500 executions) and Pro at 50 euro a month (10,000), self-hosted Business at 667 euro a month (40,000), all billed annually, and custom Enterprise; the Community Edition is free, and a 14-day trial is available, per n8n's pricing page.
Choose Dynamiq when
- The SDK is open source under Apache-2.0, with no limits on commercial use or hosting; the platform around it is commercial.
- Built for agents first: AI Coworker with its own cloud sandbox, Voice Agents for inbound calls, and Agent Builder on one engine.
- Real-time evaluations on live deployments and an AI agent that surfaces issues from production traces, next to traces with cost and latency per node.
- Forward-deployed engineers ship the first production agent with your team, then hand over. Your team keeps the code and the environment.
Choose n8n when
- A mature workflow automation platform with a very large integration and template library, useful well beyond AI use cases.
- A free, self-hosted Community Edition and low-cost cloud plans for smaller teams.
- Guardrails, human approvals and evaluations inside the same workflows your team already automates, with Git version control on Business and Enterprise.
Moving from n8n
n8n workflows export as JSON, which gives a clear map for rebuilding them as agents and workflows in Dynamiq's Agent Builder, on the canvas or in the Python SDK. App nodes and webhooks reconnect as Dynamiq integrations or MCP servers, JavaScript or Python code nodes move to SDK functions, and credentials are re-created in Dynamiq, since exported workflows carry only credential names and IDs. AI Agent prompts and tool choices carry over as the starting configuration for each agent.
Questions and answers
Is n8n open source like Dynamiq's SDK?
n8n is source-available under the Sustainable Use License (fair-code), which limits use to internal business, non-commercial or personal purposes and allows only free, non-commercial distribution. Dynamiq's Python SDK is open source under Apache-2.0 without those limits; the Dynamiq platform is not open source.
Does n8n support voice agents?
Not as a product. n8n's agents and workflows work across chat and messaging channels, but its site describes no voice agent product. Dynamiq includes Voice Agents for inbound calls on the same platform.
Does n8n have guardrails and evaluations?
Yes. n8n has a Guardrails node, human approval for chosen agent tools, and quick and metric-based evaluations, per its docs. Dynamiq adds real-time evaluations on live deployments and an AI agent that surfaces issues from production traces.
Can n8n run self-hosted for free?
Yes. The Community Edition self-hosts for free under the Sustainable Use License; the self-hosted Business and Enterprise plans add SSO, LDAP and Git version control, per n8n's pricing page.
Is n8n SOC 2 certified?
n8n states it is SOC 2 audited, publishes a SOC 3 report and lists GDPR on its trust center. Dynamiq holds SOC 2 and CASA Tier 2, and signs a BAA for HIPAA workloads and a DPA under GDPR.
