In short
Decagon is a closed, hosted platform for customer-facing AI agents across web chat, SMS, WhatsApp, voice and email, including outbound calls, configured through Agent Operating Procedures that combine natural language and code, with simulations, A/B experiments and an always-on QA system called Watchtower. Dynamiq is a governed platform for chat, voice and workflow agents with an Apache-2.0 SDK that covers internal and back-office work as well as customer conversations, runs inside your environment, and comes with a deployment team. Enterprises focused on customer experience, including outbound campaigns, fit Decagon; teams that need self-hosting, an open-source engine or agents beyond customer conversations fit Dynamiq.
Side by side
Facts checked September 29, 2026. Sources below.
- Best for
DynamiqEnterprises in regulated industries that need chat, voice and workflow agents on one governed stack, deployed inside their own environment.
DecagonEnterprises that want one customer-facing agent platform across chat, voice and email, with built-in simulations, experiments and quality monitoring, in industries such as financial services, travel, health, retail and telecom.
- Deployment options
DynamiqDynamiq Cloud, or self-hosted on your AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud, Red Hat OpenShift or any Kubernetes 1.32+ cluster, or on-prem. Fully isolated or air-gapped setups are delivered with our engineers.
DecagonHosted by Decagon on multi-region infrastructure, per its security page, and available to buy through AWS Marketplace since July 2026; no self-hosted or on-premises option is described on its site.
- Self-hosted or on-prem
DynamiqYes. Self-hosted on your cloud or on-prem, or Dynamiq Cloud; both run the same engine.
DecagonNot publicly documented; Decagon describes only its hosted platform.
- License and source code
DynamiqThe Python SDK is open source under Apache-2.0 (github.com/dynamiq-ai/dynamiq), and the visual canvas runs on the same engine. The platform around it is not open source.
DecagonClosed source; no open-source repository or SDK is published. Decagon offers APIs, MCP support, and Git-based versioning for its Agent Operating Procedures.
- Model choice
Dynamiq29 model providers in the SDK, the most-used models behind one OpenAI-compatible AI Gateway endpoint, plus open models served on vLLM and LoRA fine-tuning.
DecagonNo customer-facing model choice is described. Decagon says over 80% of its model traffic runs on models it trained itself (March 2026), and it enforces zero data retention with AI providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
- Agent types (chat, voice, workflow)
DynamiqChat, inbound voice and workflow agents on one engine. AI Coworker works with its own cloud sandbox computer, in the browser, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Telegram; Voice Agents answer inbound calls; Agent Builder runs workflow agents.
DecagonCustomer-facing agents across web chat, SMS, WhatsApp, voice and email, plus outbound campaigns such as payment reminders by SMS or call, a copilot for human representatives, and browser actions that operate internal systems during a conversation. Internal or back-office agents outside customer conversations are not described.
- Voice
DynamiqInbound calls only, over WebRTC, SIP and WebSocket, with per-turn latency measurement and simulations scored by an LLM judge.
DecagonInbound and outbound calls in more than 70 languages with automatic language detection, SIP trunking into existing telephony, and voice authentication for callers, per Decagon's voice, integrations and security pages.
- Developer surface
DynamiqAgent Builder pairs a visual canvas with the open-source Python SDK on one engine, with Choice and rules nodes, workflows generated from a prompt, and versions with rollback.
DecagonAgent Operating Procedures that mix natural language and code, versioned in Git, with Duet, an AI partner for building and improving agents; simulations run in CI/CD pipelines, and APIs and MCP connect tools. No general-purpose SDK or CLI is published.
- Governance (guardrails, approvals, SSO)
DynamiqGuardrails that detect PII and prompt injection, policy detection, validators and approvals with editable fields on any tool step, on every plan; SSO (OIDC with Okta and Microsoft Entra ID) on Enterprise.
DecagonSSO through identity providers such as Okta and Microsoft Entra, role-based access, short-lived scoped tokens for agent access to customer systems, tamper-protected audit logs, bad actor detection, a supervisor that revises hallucinated responses before they send, and automatic redaction of sensitive data in logs and transcripts after a conversation ends.
- Evals and observability
DynamiqEvals with datasets built from traces, LLM-as-a-judge, predefined and code metrics, and real-time evaluations on live deployments; traces with cost and latency per node, monitoring, and an AI agent that surfaces issues from production traces.
DecagonSimulations that test agents before deployment and with every update, A/B experiments on live traffic against a control group, Watchtower QA that reviews every AI and human conversation against custom criteria, and reporting with generative analytics.
- Integrations
Dynamiq2,100+ app integrations and 11,800+ actions, plus MCP servers and per-user connections.
DecagonPre-built integrations such as Salesforce, Zendesk, Intercom, Kustomer, Amazon Connect and RingCentral, plus APIs and MCP; no total count is published.
- Compliance
DynamiqSOC 2 and CASA Tier 2, with a BAA for HIPAA workloads and a DPA under GDPR.
DecagonIts security page shows SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, ISO, PCI and EU AI Act badges, and a September 2026 product post states the platform meets PCI, SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA.
- Delivery help (engineers)
DynamiqForward-deployed engineers run a bootcamp in your environment, ship the first production agent with your team, then hand over.
DecagonNo named engineering engagement. Decagon says its tools remove the need for lengthy configuration cycles and large forward-deployed engineering teams, and it runs Decagon University certifications.
- Pricing model
DynamiqFree to start ($0), and Enterprise with custom pricing. Available on AWS Marketplace, Microsoft Azure Marketplace and IBM Marketplace.
DecagonNot published on Decagon's site, which routes buyers to a demo; it is also sold through AWS Marketplace.
Choose Dynamiq when
- One engine for chat, voice and workflow agents, covering internal and back-office work as well as customer conversations.
- The agent engine is an open-source Python SDK under Apache-2.0, so the code your agents run on is yours to read, audit and fork.
- Runs inside your environment: Dynamiq Cloud, or self-hosted on your AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud, OpenShift or any Kubernetes 1.32+ cluster, or on-prem, with isolated setups delivered with our engineers.
- Model choice stays with you: 29 model providers in the SDK, the most-used models behind one OpenAI-compatible endpoint, plus open models on vLLM and LoRA fine-tuning.
Choose Decagon when
- Customer experience is the whole scope, including outbound calls and SMS or WhatsApp campaigns such as payment reminders, which Dynamiq's inbound-only voice agents do not cover.
- A built-in quality loop for customer conversations: simulations in CI/CD, A/B experiments on live traffic and Watchtower QA across AI and human agents.
- CX teams define agent behavior in Agent Operating Procedures without waiting on engineering, and can buy through AWS Marketplace.
Moving from Decagon
Agent Operating Procedures and conversation designs built in Decagon are rebuilt as agents and workflows in Dynamiq's Agent Builder; procedures versioned in Git give a clear starting point for instructions and tool calls. Chat and email channels reconnect through Dynamiq integrations or MCP servers, inbound calls move to Dynamiq Voice Agents over SIP, and knowledge sources are re-ingested into Dynamiq Knowledge. Outbound calling and campaign flows have no direct equivalent, because Dynamiq voice agents are inbound only.
