Multi-agent system

Two or more agents working together on one task, each with a narrower role, coordinated by delegation or an explicit control flow.

A multi-agent system splits one broad task across several agents, each with a smaller role and a smaller tool list, instead of one agent trying to do everything. Two coordination styles cover most cases: a manager agent that delegates to specialists at run time, or an explicit orchestrator that defines the control flow between agents ahead of time.

A regulated workflow often already mirrors a real organizational structure, an analyst, a reviewer, a specialist for a narrow question, and splitting agents the same way keeps each one small enough to reason about and audit on its own, rather than one agent whose behavior spans an entire process.

A manager agent routes a request to a research specialist and a writing specialist, then either combines their answers itself or returns a specialist's answer directly when no further editing is needed.

In Dynamiq, attaching any agent as a tool of another creates a sub-agent, with a limit on how many times it can be called per run and a setting that lets its answer pass straight back as the parent's final answer. The Graph Orchestrator handles the other pattern, an explicit state machine of agents and conditions, and every child run appears as a nested span in the parent's trace.
