Intelligent document processing goes a step past OCR: it classifies a document, extracts specific fields against a schema you define, and returns structured data rather than a block of recognized characters. The output is something a downstream system can use directly, a named field with a value, not a paragraph a person still has to read and re-key.

Claims, applications, invoices and onboarding forms arrive as PDFs and scans in exactly the high-volume, high-stakes processes a regulated back office runs, and manually re-keying them is slow and error-prone at the volumes those processes handle.

An invoice's vendor name, line items and total are extracted into fields that match a firm's own accounting schema, instead of a person retyping each value from a scanned page.
