Memory an AI agent manages itself, deciding which facts to save, update or recall across sessions, instead of only replaying past conversation.

Agentic memory gives the agent a say in what it remembers. Conversation memory replays earlier messages from the same session so a reply stays coherent. Agentic memory adds a long-term store the agent writes to and reads from on its own: it notices a durable fact, such as a customer's preferred language or an analyst's reporting format, saves it, and recalls it in a later session when it becomes relevant.

Because the agent decides what to keep, the store has to stay clean and scoped. Facts must belong to one user so they never surface for another, near-duplicates should merge rather than pile up, and a stale fact needs to be replaceable. In a regulated organization, what an agent chose to remember is also data that retention and access rules have to cover, the same as any other record about a customer.

A support agent learns in one call that a customer prefers a callback on their mobile number and saves it. In a new session the following week, it recalls the preference without being told again, and it never shows that fact to anyone else.
